Definition

To bury is to place something in a hole in the ground and cover it with dirt.

Usually the term "bury" refers to putting a dead body in a hole or chamber and then covering it up.
In many parts of the world, a dead person is buried by placing the body in a hole in the ground and covering it over with dirt. Before being buried, the dead body is usually placed in a box-like structure, such as a coffin.
In Bible times, dead people were often buried in a cave or similar place. After Jesus died, his body was wrapped in cloths and placed in a stone tomb that was sealed with a large boulder.
The apostle Paul wrote that when believers in Jesus are baptized, they are showing that they have been buried with Christ and then raised from the dead with him.
