Definition
To bury is to place something in a hole in the ground and cover it with dirt.
- Usually the term "bury" refers to putting a dead body in a hole or chamber and then covering it up.
- In many parts of the world, a dead person is buried by placing the body in a hole in the ground and covering it over with dirt. Before being buried, the dead body is usually placed in a box-like structure, such as a coffin.
- In Bible times, dead people were often buried in a cave or similar place. After Jesus died, his body was wrapped in cloths and placed in a stone tomb that was sealed with a large boulder.
- The apostle Paul wrote that when believers in Jesus are baptized, they are showing that they have been buried with Christ and then raised from the dead with him.
