1.5 KiB
General Information:
Verse 15 is a break from the main story line of John's vision. These are words spoken by Jesus. The story line continues in verse 16.
Look! I am coming ... his shameful condition
This is in parentheses to show that it is not part of the story line in the vision. Rather, this is something that the Lord Jesus said. It can be stated clearly that the Lord Jesus said this, as in the UDB. (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-explicit)
I am coming as a thief
Jesus will come at a time when people do not expect him, just as a thief comes when not expected. See how you translated a similar phrase in Revelation 3:3. (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-simile)
keeping his garments on
Living the right way is spoken of as keeping one's clothes on. Alternate translation: "doing what is right, like keeping his clothes on" (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-metaphor)
keeping his garments on
Some versions translate this as, "keeping his garments with him."
does not walk around naked
This is a metaphor for living foolishly without knowing it. Alternate translation: "does not live foolishly" (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-metaphor)
they do not see his shameful condition
Here the word "they" refers to other people.
shameful condition
This general term for anything of which a person should be ashamed is here probably a euphemism for a naked man's private parts. Alternate translation: "those things of which he should be ashamed" (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-euphemism)
