Who is a wise man? Who knows what the events in life mean?
Solomon, known for his wisdom, describes true wisdom as seeking to honor God. This is the only thing that lasts. He asks these as leading questions to provide the answer in what he says next. The ULB sets poetry (8:1 and 8:5-8) farther to the right than the rest of the text to show that it is poetry.
