Abraham Journey

  1. This map shows the journey that Abraham took from the Ur of the Chaldeans to when he finally made his home in the region of Cana.

  2. Abraham was the "father of the Israelites" and they called themselves "the children of Abraham" see Isaiah 51:2; and Ezekiel 33:24).

  3. God was called "the God of Abraham."

  4. The faith of Abraham
    a. Abraham worshiped God (monotheistic worship), when polytheistic worship was widely practiced by those of his day (Joshua 24:3).
    b. Abraham was Chosen by God (Nehemiah 9:7); redeemed by God (Isaiah 29:22); and blessed by God (Micah 7:20).
    c. In the New Testament, the faith of Abraham is applied to those who trust in the New Covenant. As Abraham took an oath (Luke 1:73), he was d. Abraham was a recipient of mercy (Luke 1:54), the covenant (Acts 3:25); the promise (Romans 4:13); and the blessing of grace (Galatians 3:14).
    e. Abraham's faith was a saving faith, trusting in God for salvation (Hebrews 11:8-19).

  5. The main cities along Abraham's Journey are:
    a. Ur [1] indicating number on the en_map; Genesis 11:31, Acts 7:2-4
    b. Babylon [2] city on route
    c. Haran [3] Genesis 12:1-4, Acts 7:4
    d. Carchemish [4] along the route
    e. Hamath [5] along the route
    f. Damascus [6] Genesis 15:2, with Eliezer of Damascus
    g. Shechem [7] reviewing the journey, Genesis 12:6
    h. Jerusalem, region, along the way from Shechem to Hebron
    i. Shiloh, along the way to Bethel
    j. Bethel [8] reviewing the journey, see Genesis 12:8
    k. Ai [9] after leaving Bethel; in Ai Abraham built an altar to Yahweh, see Genesis 12:8
    l. Lot went along the plain of the Jordan, Genesis 13:10; this was before the events of Sodom and Gomorah
    m. Hebron, oaks of Mamre, place in Canaan where Abraham stayed, Genesis 13:18
    n. Shur in Egypt [10], a place with wells, also area of Zoan, which was connected with the building of Hebron, being built seven years before Zoan. This gives notice that Abraham and Moses were both at the area of Zoan, as we discover later in Number 13:22. And so Abraham stayed a while in that region of Egypt, many years before Moses and the Exodus.
    o. Hebron, return to Canaan, Lot and Abraham part ways, Genesis 13:7
    p. Bethel, return, Genesis 13:3, from Egypt; later Genesis 28:19, with Jacob
