How to read the map

  • The names of regions are red with uppercase letters.
  • The names of towns and cities are black with lowercase letters.
  • The names of seas, lakes, and rivers are blue with uppercase letters.
  • The green areas are where there are plants and trees.
  • The brown areas are desert.
  • The blue areas are seas and lakes.
  • The blue lines are rivers.
  • The black line shows the path that Abram may have taken.

Abram's Journey to Canaan

  • God told Abram to go to the land that God would show him. (Genesis 12:1)
  • Abram and his family traveled from the city of Ur to the city of Haran. (Genesis 11:31)
    • They followed the path of the Euphrates River as they traveled.
    • Abram's father died in Haran. (Genesis 11:32)
  • Abram and his family traveled to the land of Canaan and stopped at the city of Shechem. (Genesis 12:5-6)
    • The Lord told Abram that he would give his descendants the land of Canaan. (Genesis 12:7)
    • Abram built an altar to the Lord. (Genesis 12:7)
  • Abram and his family traveled south and stayed at a place in between Bethel and Ai. (Genesis 12:8)
    • Abram set up his tent there. (Genesis 12:8)
    • Abram built an altar to God. (Genesis 12:8)
  • Abram traveled toward the Negev. (Genesis 12:9)
  • God later changed Abram's name to Abraham. (Genesis 17:5)
