Awe (Awesome)

The word “awe” is used to talk about the feeling someone gets when that person sees or experiences something great or powerful (see: 1 Samuel 18:15; Psalm 22:23; Acts 2:43; Hebrews 12:28). It is a feeling of amazement or wonder. The word “awesome” is used to talk about someone or something that causes the feeling of awe in a person (see: Genesis 28:16-17; Ezekiel 1:22; Nehemiah 1:5).

When someone has a feeling of awe it is often hard for the person to understand or explain the thing that has happened. Humans do certain things when they have a feeling of awe toward God. For example, they will have fear. They also may bow down, kneel down, cover their faces, or tremble (see: Exodus 3:6; Isaiah 6:5; Ezekiel 1:28; Daniel 8:17-18; Revelation 1:17; 22:8).
