# Tempt (Temptation)
Someone who “tempts” another person is trying to get the other person to do something wrong. A “temptation” is something that causes a person to want to do something wrong.
People are tempted because they want to sin (see: James 1:14). Satan also tempts people to disobey God. Satan is called “the tempter” (see: Matthew 4:3; 1 Thessalonians 3:5).

#### More Information About This Topic
Satan tempted Jesus and tried to get him to do something wrong. However, Jesus did not sin. Jesus resisted all of Satans temptations (see: Matthew 4:1-11).
All people are tempted to sin, but God helps people not to sin (see: 1 Corinthians 10:13). Jesus can help people not to sin when they are tempted, because he also was tempted and did not sin (see: Hebrews 2:18; 4:15). Christians are supposed to pray for Gods help not to sin when they are tempted (see: Matthew 6:13; 26:41).
