Walk (metaphor)
The word "walk" is often used as a metaphor in the Bible. To “walk” is used to talk about "living" in a certain way. To follow or “walk after” someone is used to talk about obeying someone (Deuteronomy 13:4). For a person to "walk by the Spirit" is for that person to do the things the Holy Spirit tells him to do (Galatians 5:16). To "walk in" God's commands or “God's ways” is to do the things God says to do (Exodus 18:20). That is, it is to obey his commands. The words "Enoch walked with God" are used to talk about how Enoch lived in a close relationship with God (Genesis 5:22). The words to "walk contrary to" are used to talk about doing things that someone does not want to be done (Leviticus 26:21).
