# captive, captivity
## Definition
The terms "captive" and "captivity" refer to capturing someone and holding him as a prisoner against his will. Usually this is in the context of an army taking their enemies captive.
* The Israelites from the kingdom of Judah were taken into captivity by the Babylonian army and kept captive in the kingdom of Babylonia for 70 years.
*God often allowed Israel to be held captive by an enemy as punishment for their rebellion against him.

* In a figurative sense, the apostle Paul tells Christians to "take captive" every thought and make it obedient to Christ.
