To circumcise means to remove the foreskin of a man or male child. Circumcision was part of the covenant between God and Israel. When a man was circumcised, then other people knew that the man was part of the covenant between God and Israel.
Circoncire c'est lorsqu'on coupe le prépuce d'un homme ou d'un enfant de sexe masculin. La circoncision représentait l'engagement de Dieu avec Israël; ainsi, lorsqu'un homme était cisconcis tout le monde savait qu'il appartenait à Dieu.
Sometimes ‘circumcision’ is used to talk about a person’s inner attitude towards God and his commands. People with circumcised hearts are people who have received the Holy Spirit and are empowered to obey God. (see: Deuteronomy 30:6). People who do not have circumcised hearts are people who reject and disobey God.
Dans la bible, la circoncision est aussi utilisée comme une métaphore pour exprimer le choix que les croyants font pour "circoncire leur coeur". Les gens avec un coeur circoncis ont abandonné le péché complètement pour servir Dieu entièrement (Deutéronome 30:6).

The Judaizers did not want Paul to talk about circumcision in the way that he did. They wanted the Gentiles to be circumcised (see: Galatians 5:11-12; 6:12-13). That is, believing in Jesus is what made them at peace with God. Obeying the law of Moses did not make them at peace with God.
