It is finished!

This could also be translated as: “It is completed” or “I have finished it” or “I have completed the work.” This means that Jesus work of salvation was complete.

Father

I am giving my spirit into your hands

This statement is a metonym that refers to Gods care. Alternate translation: “I entrust my spirit to your care” or “I give my spirit to you, knowing you will care for it” (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-metonymy)

bowed his head

This could mean lowered his head.

gave up his spirit

This is a polite way to say that Jesus died. This could be translated as: “gave up his spirit to God” or “released his spirit to God and died” (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-euphemism)

The large curtain that separated the people from the presence of God in the Temple was torn in two

This was a large, strong fabric hung in the Temple. It was like a wall separating one room from another. It can also be translated as: “The thick curtain” or “The hanging fabric” or “The screen.”
