Facts

Tyre was an ancient Canaanite city on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in what is now the country of Lebanon. Part of the city was also located on an island in the sea, about one kilometer from the coast.

  • The city of Tyre existed before the Israelites moved into Canaan. It was always a Gentile city.
  • Because of its location and valuable natural resources, the city of Tyre had a prosperous trading industry and was very wealthy.
  • The people of Tyre had a reputation for living immorally.
  • Tyre was often associated with the nearby ancient city of Sidon.
