Definition

A stone is a small rock. Stoning means throwing stones at a person in order to kill him.

In ancient times, stoning was a method of execution for crimes; it is also sometimes performed in modern times.
For the Israelites in the Old Testament, God ordered stoning to be done by the leaders as a punishment for certain sins, such as adultery.
