Definition

A shrine is a place or shelter which is dedicated to the worship of a deity or idol.

A shrine would normally contain some type of altar as a place to offer a sacrifice to the deity.
In the Bible, the use of the term shrine usually refers to a place of pagan deity worship, for example the shrine of the Greek goddess Diana.
This term occasionally refers to a place where God is worshiped, especially if it specifies that.
