Michael is the chief of all God's holy, obedient angels. He is the only angel who is specifically referred to as the "archangel" of God.

The term "archangel" literally means "chief angel" or "ruling angel."
Michael led Israel against the Persians; he will lead the armies of Israel in the final battle against the forces of evil as foretold in Daniel.
He is also sometimes depicted as an intercessor for the people before God.
There are also several men in the Bible with this name.
