Benaiah

Definition

Benaiah was a loyal officer of King David and King Solomon.

When Solomon was being made king, Benaiah helped him overthrow his enemies.
King Solomon ordered Benaiah to kill Adonijah who was plotting to take over the kingship.
Benaiah was then ordered to kill commander Joab who had also been plotting against Solomon.
Solomon appointed Benaiah to replace Joab as commander of the Israelite army.
Benaiah became well-known as a courageous and mighty fighter.
A few other men in the Old Testament are also named Benaiah, including a priest.
