Abiathar

Definition

Abiathar was a high priest for the nation of Israel during the time of King David and King Solomon.

  • Abiathar served alongside of the priest, Zadok.
  • When King Saul massacred the priests, Abiathar escaped and went to David in the wilderness.
  • After David's death, Abiathar turned against Solomon by helping Adonijah in his attempt to take away Solomon's kingship.
  • Because of this, Solomon removed Abiathar from the priesthood. (See also: other/zadok, other/saul, other/david, other/solomon, other/adonijah)
