Definition

To rebel is to refuse to submit to someone's authority. That is, to refuse to obey one's leader.

  • Passive rebellion happens when people refuse to do what the authorities over them have commanded.
  • Active rebellion happens when people directly oppose or disobey their authorities.
  • To rebel can also refer to people going to war against a government or leader that is ruling over them. People may do this when they believe that the government or leader is ruling unjustly.
