# Cyrus
## Facts
Cyrus was a Persian king who founded the Persian empire in about 550 BC, through military conquest.
* Cyrus conquered the city of Babylon, which led to the release of the Israelites who had been kept in exile there.
* Cyrus' edict of tolerance led his successor, Darius, to allow the rebuilding of the Jerusalem temple after the exile.
* Cyrus was reigning during the time when Daniel, Ezra, and Nehemiah were living.
