# Wine is a mocker and strong drink is a brawler

|
These two phrases mean basically the same thing and are combined to emphasize the danger of too much alcohol. (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-parallelism]])

# Wine is a mocker
|
|
|
|
Here "wine" refers to the person who is drunk with wine. AT: "A person who is drunk with wine mocks" (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-metonymy]])

# strong drink is a brawler
|
|
|
|
Here "strong drink" refers to a person who is drunk with strong drink. AT: "a person who is drunk with strong drink starts fights" (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-metonymy]])

|
|
|
a person who fights noisily, usually in a public place
|
|
|
|
# whoever is led astray by drink is not wise

Here "drink" refers to alcoholic drinks
|

|
