Canaan était le fils de Cham, qui était l'un des fils de Noé* Les Cananéens étaient les descendants de Canaan.

Le terme «Canaan» ou la «terre de Canaan» aussi situé à la zone de terre entre le Jourdain et la Mer Méditerranée* Elle s'étend du Sud jusqu'à la frontière de l'Egypte et au Nord de la frontière de la Syrie.
