Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?
28:1 – ὀψέ is translated as “late,” whereas in this context, “after” may make this verse more clear – "Now late on the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week"
According this reading, it sounds like the Saturday night, rather than the morning hours of Sunday to someone with little knowledge of “Sabbath” in the first century AD. BDAG, Newman, Mounce, and Louw and Nida all regard “after” to be accurate in this verse. Thayer is the only one who (perhaps?) disagrees, who thinks it still carries the idea of lateness. But not late on the sabbath day, rather late in the period of the sabbath.
Even if the idea of the Sabbath continuing into the early hours of Sunday morning was intended here, in English, the phrase “late on the Sabbath” will be thought of as Saturday night.
Compare with Louw and Nida 67.76 notes, "pertaining to a point near the end of a day (normally after sunset but before night) — ‘late, late in the day.’”
I agree with changing "late on the Sabbath" to "after the Sabbath".
Agreed, can you change it Susan?
I changed it to this and fixed tN.
\v 1 Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
What do you think about "Now"? Leave it or delete it? It seems a little odd, but maybe it really doesn't matter.
It is δε so I do not think it is a big issue to delete it.
Are you saying that it's not a big enough issue to bother deleting it, or that it's not a problem if we want to delete it?
The latter
Actually, "Now" doesn't seem so strange to me anymore. I'll leave it.
