ULB Jer 17:24
\v 24 It will happen that if you truly listen to me—this is Yahweh's declaration—and do not bring a load to the gates of this city on the Sabbath day but instead set apart the Sabbath day to Yahweh and not do any work on it,
ULB Jer 17:24
\v 24 It will happen that if you truly listen to me—this is Yahweh's declaration—and do not bring a load to the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, but keep the Sabbath day holy and do no work on it,
Tom W
"but instead set apart the Sabbath day to Yahweh" vs "but keep the Sabbath day holy"
ULB uses "set apart" for the piel of קָדַשׁ:
Jer 17:22, and 27
Exo 20:8 Remember the Sabbath day, to set it apart to me.
Exo 20:11 Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart.
Deu 5:12 Observe the Sabbath day to keep it holy
Neh 13:22 sanctify the Sabbath day
"Set apart" is adequate.
Should we delete "to Yahweh"?
"Instead" is not needed, but it is adequate
"and not do any work" vs "and do no work"
ULB is adequate
Agreed, also remove Yahweh. It may be necessary in the tN to explain it is set apart from the other days or set apart to serve Yahweh.
I changed it to this:
\v 24 It will happen that if you truly listen to me—this is Yahweh's declaration—and do not bring a load to the gates of this city on the Sabbath day but instead set apart the Sabbath day and not do any work on it,
Added tN for "set apart the Sabbath day" in Jer 7:22 and here.
