Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?
ULB Jer 8:3 currently reads:
\v 3 In every remaining place where I have driven them, they will choose death instead of life for themselves, all who are still left over from this evil nation—this is the declaration of Yahweh of hosts.
ULB Jer 8:3 suggested changes:
\v 3 Death will be chosen more than life in every remnant that remains from this evil family, in all the places where I have driven them—this is the declaration of Yahweh of hosts
Tom W
"In every remaining place where I have driven them ... all who are still left over from this evil nation" vs "every remnant that remains from this evil family, in all the places where I have driven them"
I don't see any versions that make it clear that places remain.
I suggest changing "every remaining place" to "every place".
"evil nation" vs "evil family"
Most versions translate "family" literally.
V 1 talks about kings, officials, priests, prophets and inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Is "nation" adequate?
"they will choose death instead of life for themselves" vs "Death will be chosen more than life"
Hebrew has passive,
but active is adequate
ULB adds "for themselves."
Perhaps delete "for themselves".
\v 3 In every place where I have driven them, they will choose death instead of life, all who remain from this evil nation—this is the declaration of Yahweh of hosts.
or
\v 3 In every place where I have driven them, all who remain from this evil nation will choose death instead of life—this is the declaration of Yahweh of hosts.
It should be family, not nation. If it needs to be clarified, I would do it in the tN. I am in favor of changing the passive.
In every place where I have driven them, death will be chosen instead of life by all who remain from this evil family--this is the declaration of Yahweh of hosts.
Changed to
\v 3 In every place where I have driven them, death will be chosen instead of life by all who remain from this evil family—this is the declaration of Yahweh of hosts.
Added note for passive.
