To what should I compare this generation? It is like children playing in the marketplace, who sit and call to one another

NASB95 (≈ other versions) “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places, who call out to the other children,
NLT “To what can I compare this generation? It is like children playing a game in the public square. They complain to their friends,

The salient verb here is καθημένοις, which the NASB follows literally. The Word Commentary also translates it "sit" but in the commentary say, "the situation of children playing in the marketplaces."

I suggest that we use either "sit" or "play" but not both in the ULB. UDB and tNs can inform the user that the word picture probably is that of kids who have been playing but are seated in exasperation and talking to other children. (τοῖς ἑτέροις can be given an alternative translation "each other" in a tN.)

I agree with the change. I suggest "marketplaces" or "markets" since the Greek is plural.

I also agree to having "playing" or "sitting," but not both.

Keeping the plural seems fair.

The ULB of Mat 11:16 currently reads:

The suggested change reads:

Give that a look. The participles play into the game motif ... sitting .... calling out...
προσφωνοῦντα (calling out; not just calling), as in playing a game, they are calling out ...

I'm fine with this except for the past tense in the relative clause. προσφωνοῦντα is a present particle.
