The current ULB Lev 19:14 reads:
\v 14 Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind. Instead, you must fear your God. I am Yahweh.
The ULB Lev 19:14 suggest changes are as follows:
\v 14 Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but you will fear your God; I am Yahweh.
Instead leaves a vagueness of the option, you may do this or you may do that.
The "but" means there is something to be done, not an option, but a command to be followed, not a selection that is concomitant (of equal value as other choices) with other options. It is a command.

I do not agree that "Instead" leaves a vagueness of the option, that you may do this or that. There is no option. The first sentence is a prohibition, and the second is a command to do something.
I'm fine with keeping it as is or changing "Instead" to "Rather".
If we want "but", I think "you must fear" should be changed to a direct command.
\v 14 Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but fear your God. I am Yahweh.
I like the change. Only the first word is Piel, but the Qal carries the imperatival force because of the overall way the sentence is constructed.
Do you like the change to "Rather" or to "but fear"?
Yes
Changed and checked TN.
