This one's all my fault.

\v 6 Jesse was the father of David the king,
\p David the
father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah.

\s5
\p
\v 7 Solomon was the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa.

I put the break in March 2019. Can't break up a sentence with a paragraph break. Should be:

\v 6 Jesse was the father of David the king.
\p David was the
father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah,

\s5
\p
\v 7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa.

Why is there a paragraph break there? To follow the pattern of vv 8-10, shouldn't it be like this:

\v 6 Jesse was the father of David the king, David the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah.
\s5
\p
\v 7 Solomon was the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa.
\p
\v 8 Asa was the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram an ancestor of Uzziah.

\s5
\p
\v 9 Uzziah was the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah.
\p
\v 10 Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, and Amon the father of Josiah.

Good question. My assignment was to follow NIV paragraph breaks. They put one there.

I agree with Henry's suggested change so we don't have a paragraph break mid-sentence in verse 6.

Does the \s5 before \v 7 need to move up to just before the second sentence of v6? Or does it need to stay where it is because of chunking?

I'm fine with Henry's suggested change as well.

I'm not sure about \s5. Henry or Tom may have more insight.

I am good with whatever you decide. I do not know how to read the markdown language for sentence/paragraph structure.

I found out the chunk breaks (\s5) are irrelevant, so I'll leave that part as is.

As for why the NIV has the paragraph at in the middle of v6, I think it's because of what Matthew wrote in v17.

  • Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.

I changed it to this and update TN.

\v 6 Jesse was the father of David the king.
\p David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah.
