ULB Mahalaleel
UDB Mahalalel
NIV11 Mahalalel

Should ULB be changed to match NIV, or should UDB be changed to match ULB?

ULB Mahalaleel UDB Mahalalel NIV11 Mahalalel Should ULB be changed to match NIV, or should UDB be changed to match ULB?

Mahalaleel is a longstanding (the original?) ULB spelling of GNT Μαλελεὴλ (which would be translated Maleleel), which comes from LXX Μαλελεηλ, which comes from מַֽהֲלַלְאֵֽל (Mahalalel, as Gen 5:12-13 is in the ULB and NIV11). It seems the NIV has put the OT transliteration here rather than transliterating the NT Greek.

OGNT: Μαλελεήλ
ULB-OT: Mahalalel

I see no need for the last syllable to be leel like the Greek if the second syllable is ha like the Hebrew.

Suggestion: Either transliterate the Greek as Maleleel or use the OT name Mahalalel.

My preference: Mahalalel like the NIV 11, UDB, and ULB-OT.

I'm fine with either spelling, but it makes sense to change it to Mahalalel in Luke to match NIV and how we have spelled the word elsewhere.

This is the only occasion of Mahalalel and it is replaced to follow the NIV, the UDB, and now it is in the ULB.

The ULB now reads:

\v 37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan,
\v 38 the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Please check the tN for disparities in spelling.

Tom, the change to Mahalalel doesn't show up yet in the content server.

The tNs are fine. They don't mention this name.

The BIEL has: Luk 3:37

\v 37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan,

And my SmartGit both seem to be ok .
