9:8
\v 8 When the crowds saw this, they were amazed and praised God, who had given such authority to people.
\v 8 When the crowds saw this, they were afraid and glorified God, who had given such authority to people.
Current ULB is the same.
I'm ok changing this to "afraid," but I think it needs a tn.
SQ. I'm ok with "afraid", too.
How would this be?
they were afraid
Possible meanings are 1) they were afraid, or 2) they were in awe.
Concerns: "Amazed" seems too weak. People might not know what "in awe" means.
JH. You could add a short definition of "awe." "Awe" is a feeling of wonder a person has when they see or experience something great or powerful.
SQ. Thanks, John. I added the TN with a short definition of "awe".
9:15
\v 15 Jesus said to them, "Can wedding attendants be sorrowful while the bridegroom is still with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.
\v 15 Jesus said to them, "Can the sons of the wedding hall mourn while the bridegroom is still with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Current ULB is the same.
I'm not sure changing to "the sons of the wedding hall" is helpful. There is a note and tw page, but it seems just as simple to clarify in the text.
SQ. Even "wedding attendants" will need a note.
So for that reason, I'm ok with "sons of the wedding hall".
JH: Works for me
SQ. Nothing to do for this verse.
Mat 11:11
\v 11 I say to you truly, among those born of women no one is greater than John the Baptist. Yet the least important person in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.
\v 11 I say to you truly, there has not arisen among those born of women anyone greater than John the Baptist. Yet the least important person in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.
Current ULB is the same.
I'm fine with the vocabulary change. But the word order change is cumbersome. What would you think of this?
\v 11 I say to you truly that among those born of women, there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist. Yet the least important person in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.
The reason I used "that" was to make it clear that "among those born of women" modifies "not arisen" rather than "say".
JH: I am fine with your suggestions.
SQ. Tom could you make the following change to Mat 11:11?
\v 11 I say to you truly, there has not arisen among those born of women anyone greater than John the Baptist. Yet the least important person in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.
\v 11 I say to you truly that among those born of women, there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist. Yet the least important person in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.
TomW
The ULB of Mat 11:11 now reads:
\v 11 I say to you truly that among those born of women, there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist. Yet the least important person in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.
