1:8

-\v 8 You have not seen him, but you love him. You do not see him now, but you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory.
+\v 8 You have not seen him, but you love him. You do not see him now, but you believe in him and exult with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory.
\v 8 You have not seen him, but you love him. You do not see him now, but you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory.

At some point this was changed back to the original. I am fine with that.

Also 4:13 be glad > exult > be glad. I like "be glad" (the current ULB) better.

SQ. I agree with taking out exult. I see that it is not in the ULB at all now. I will add it to the page of words we no longer use.

No work needed on 1:8

1:20

-\v 20 Christ was chosen before the foundation of the world, but now he has been revealed to you in these last times.
+\v 20 Christ was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but now he has been revealed to you in these last times.
\v 20 Christ was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but now he has been revealed to you in these last times.

At some point this was changed to "foreknown." [Commit c06d4dc5] There is a tW page called "foreordain" but that word is no longer on the page. It has been changed to "foreknew."

I am fine with the current ULB.

SQ. I don't know why versions have such variety: "foreknown" "foreordained" "chosen" and predestined. I'm fine either way.

No work needed on 1:20.

2:23

-\v 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile back. When he suffered, he did not threaten back, but he gave himself to the one who judges justly.
+\v 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile back. When he suffered, he did not threaten back, but he committed himself to the one who judges justly.
\v 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile back. When he suffered, he did not threaten back, but he committed himself to the one who judges justly.

I suggest changing this to "he gave himself over"

SQ. I agree. The TW page for "commit" does not include this idea.

Tom, could you change "he committed himself" to "he gave himself over" in 1Pe 2:23?

\v 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile back. When he suffered, he did not threaten back, but he committed himself to the one who judges justly.
\v 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile back. When he suffered, he did not threaten back, but he gave himself over to the one who judges justly.

Glad to apply this fix.

1PE 2:23 now reads:

\v 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile back. When he suffered, he did not threaten back, but he gave himself over to the one who judges justly.

2:24

\v 24 He himself carried our sins in his body to the tree so that we would have no more part in sin and so that we would live for righteousness. By his bruises you have been healed.
\v 24 He himself carried our sins in his body on the tree so that we would stay away from sin and live for righteousness. By his bruises you have been healed.
\v 24 He himself carried our sins in his body on the tree so that we would stay away from sin and live for righteousness. By his bruises you have been healed.

All other translation have something about "dying to sin." Our lexicon also defines this word (G0581) as doing something like dying in some way.

SQ. I think that's too important a metaphor to lose.

Tom, could you change "stay away from" to "die to"?

Tom here... glad to apply .

4:3

\v 3 You have spent enough time doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passion, drunkenness, drunken celebrations, having wild parties, and committing disgusting acts of idolatry.
\v 3 For the time that has passed is enough for you to do the will of the Gentiles, living in sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, drunken celebrations, having wild parties, and committing disgusting acts of idolatry.
\v 3 For the time that has passed is enough for you to do the desire of the Gentiles, living in sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, drunken celebrations, having wild parties, and committing lawless acts of idolatry.

I think the original is easier to understand.

SQ. I agree.

\v 3 For the time that has passed is enough for you to do the desire of the Gentiles, living in sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, drunken celebrations, having wild parties, and committing lawless acts of idolatry.

\v 3 For you have spent enough time doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, drunken celebrations, having wild parties, and committing lawless acts of idolatry.

I'll add a TN. I think it's understatement, but I don't think we have a page for that.

5:10

-\v 10 After you suffer for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will perfect you, establish you, and strengthen you [last phrase was missing].
+\v 10 After you suffer for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will perfect you, establish you, strengthen you, and make you stable.
\v 10 After you suffer for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will perfect you, confirm you, strengthen you, and make you stable.

This is the only time in the ULB the word "stable" is used. No other versions translates g2311 as "stable." It is on the "foundation" tw page, which includes "establish." Since in the current ULB we changed "establish you" to "confirm you," I suggest changing "make you stable" to "establish you."

SQ John's suggestion sounds good to me.

Tom, could you change "make you stable" to "establish you" in 1Pe 5:10?

This commit was hard to follow in smart git. A lot of lines had been shifted up or down, making it difficult to see all the changes. I may have missed something.

SQ. I didn't see any other problems.
