\v 26 As they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and they laid the cross on him to carry, following Jesus.

I don't know why the Greek infinitive is translated as an English participle. It doesn't fit well in the English sentence, and it does not show that this was the soldier's intention -- that Simon was to follow Jesus.
