Titus 1:13
\v 13 This testimony is true. Therefore, correct them severely, so that they may be truthful in the faith,
\v 14 not paying any attention to Jewish myths or to the commands of people who turn away from the truth.

Other versions translate G5198 ὑγιαίνω 'be healthy' as "be sound" "be strong" or "faith that is alive and well."

If we want to remove the health metaphor (as appears to be the rationale for tranlsating it as "truthful"), I would suggest "correct" or "accurate."

I think truthful implies honesty, its near synonym. It is not about honsety because people can be honest and wrong. It is about being right. My suggestion is to use sound instead of truthful and then have a clarifyig note that reads AT: “they may be correct in what they believe.”

The same issue comes up in 2:1

ULB: But you, speak what fits with truthful instruction.

Again, the word translated "truthful" is G5198 ὑγιαίνω.

Other versions have "sound doctrine" or "sound teaching" "healthy doctrine" "what is correct" "accurate teachings" and "wholesome teaching."

I suggest "sound instruction" and a TN with "correct teaching" as an alternate translation.

Titus 2:2

Teach older men to be temperate, dignified, sensible, and sound in faith, in love, and in perseverance.

This lends support to changing "truthful" in 1:13 and 2:1 to "sound."

Titus 2:7-8

\v 7 In all ways present yourself as an example of good works. In your teaching, show integrity, dignity,
\v 8 and a truthful message that is above criticism, so that anyone who opposes you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

Again, the word translated “truthful” is G5198 ὑγιαίνω.

Other versions have soundness of speech, sound speech, sound in word, and accurate message. (A few different ones are the truth, wholesome speech, and clean language.)

Does G5198 ὑγιαίνω have a different sense in this verse? If so, should we keep "truthful" or change it to "sound" and fix the TN? If it does not have a different sense, then I would suggest changing it to "sound" as in the other verses above.

G5198 ὑγιαίνω is translated as "truthful" in 1Ti and 2Ti.

1Ti 6:3 If anyone teaches false doctrine and does not agree with the truthful words of our Lord Jesus Christ and with godly teaching,

2Ti 1:13 13 Keep the example of the truthful words that you heard from me, with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

Is "truthful" ok here? Or would one of these be better? sound, wholesome, good.

(I have trouble with "accurate" and "correct" here. They seem to imply that the writer has the authority to judge Jesus's teaching. But it's not a judgment. It's an acknowledgement that Jesus' teaching is good.)

At this point, the adjective "sound" is used 4 times. It has different senses or uses.
Act 26:25 sound judgment
2Tim 4:3 sound teaching
Tit 2:2 sound in faith
1Pe 4:7 sound mind
