The ULB does not use the word "propitiation." It should. The Greek word ἱλασμός occurs only in these two verses:

1Jn 2:2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

1Jn 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and that he sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

The phrase "the atoning sacrifice" leaves out the idea of satisfying God's wrath.
