Problem:
I don't see any versions like what is in bold above, and I don't see how it helps make the meaning clearer.

Suggestion:
Change the bold words above to "This salvation was first announced"

\v 2 For if the message that was spoken through the angels proved to be so reliable, and every transgression and disobedience receives just repayment, \v 3 how then can we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? **This is salvation that was first announced** by the Lord and confirmed to us by those who heard it.
