Jan N. from the audio team asked about “Sea of Reeds” in two versus in Exodus. She wondered if it should be “Red Sea.” Since Exodus in the ULB has "Sea of Reeds" 5 times and it does not have "Red Sea," and since the audio recording has "Sea of Reeds," I said to leave it that way.
Then I checked the ULB OT. It has "Sea of Reeds" everywhere (Exo, Num, Deu, Jos, Jdg, Neh, Psa, Jer) except 1Ki 9:26.
All of these have the word סוּף (suph), which means "reeds" in Exo 2:3,5 (where Moses mother put the basket in the Nile.)
Suggestion
Use the same expression in all of the OT verses.
tW: Add "Related Words" so it includes "Red Sea."
Advantages of "Sea of Reeds"
Only one verse in the ULB needs to be changed. (Also potentially only one TN.)
The word "Suph" is translated the same way every time.
Advantages of "Red Sea"
ULB OT and NT will have the same expression
ULB will be like all the other English versions
I see that the following now have "Sea of Reeds"
Acts 7:36
Heb 11:29
Now this is the only occurence of "Red Sea" in the ULB
1KI 9:26 Elath on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.
The Hebrew looks basiaaly the same as the others - yam(mah) suph. I don't know if the interterpretation of of the phrase differs by the form of the word for "sea" (yam versus yammah)
