Several months ago, Drew expressed that instead of representing יָ֔הּ in Exo 15:2 and 17:16 as "Yah," it would be better to represent it as "Yahweh."

On Saturday I got an email from Roger W saying that the audio team found the mistake and corrected it to "Yahweh" in the audio. Should I ask the audio team to record those two chapters again, this time using "Yah," or should we change the word to "Yahweh" in the ULB? (If we change it to "Yahweh," we will need to either delete or modify the footnote.)

Exo 15:2
\v 2 Yah is my strength and song,
\q2 and he has become my salvation. *\f + \ft Yah is a short form of the name Yahweh.\f *
\q This is my God, and I will praise him,
\q2 my father's God, and I will exalt him.

Exo 17:16
\v 16 He said, "For a hand was lifted up to the throne of Yah—that Yahweh will wage war with Amalek from generation to generation." *\f + \ft Yah is a short form of the name Yahweh.\f *

What is the purpose of changing "Yah"? Most versions get around the issue by saying "LORD," but those who are more literal use "Yah" instead of "Yahweh." See: World English Bible, Young's Literal Translation, Literal Standard Version, Legacy Standard Bible.

It's probably not a big deal to change it to "Yahweh," especially if the audio team has already recorded it that way, but I don't think the change is necessary.

Tabitha's email of Feb 22, 2023.

I have looked into this and think changing it to Yahweh makes the most sense. If we haven’t made a decision yet, then lets’ go with that.

Hebrew has "Yah" 48 times. Exo 2x, Psa 42x, Isa 4x.

ULB Psalms text has "Yah," 6x, "Yah." 16 "Yah " 8x (There are also 40 occurences in footnotes.) Could 2 "Yah"s in Psalms have been changed to "Yahweh"?

ULB Isaiah has Yah 12:2, 26:4, and 38:11 (twice)

I'll write a separate issue so we can decide if we want to change Yah to Yahweh in Psalms and Isaiah.

John and I messaged on Teams about Exodus.

In Exodus, I changed Yah to Yahweh and deleted the footnote.
