\v 3 Jokshan became the father of Sheba and Dedan. The descendants of Dedan were the Assyrian people, the Letush people, and the Leum people.
Most translations have:
the Ashurites, the Letushites and the Leummites
or
Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim
I'm ok with what the ULB has, but I wonder if "Assyiran people" is correct. From what I can find, this verse is not referring to the major nation of Assyria, but of a small tribe. Our wording is confusing.
I suggest changing these names to the Ashurites, the Letushites and the Leummites.
We have plenty of "-ites" in the ULB.
The NIV has the Ashurites, the Letushites and the Leummites.
I dont know why the ULB is different. Im fine with the change.
I dont have my computer with me, so I cant do a search. Does the ULB have other places where Asshurim was erroneously translated as "Assyrian people"?
The only other place this word occurs in the Bible is 2 Sam 2:9.
The ULB has:
\v 8 But Abner son of Ner, commander of Saul's army, took Ish-Bosheth son of Saul and brought him to Mahanaim.
\v 9 He made Ish-Bosheth king over Gilead, Asher, Jezreel, Ephraim, Benjamin, and over all Israel.
The NIV has:
He made him king over Gilead, Ashuri and Jezreel, and also over Ephraim, Benjamin and all Israel.
HCSB has:
He made him king over Gilead, Asher, Jezreel, Ephraim, Benjamin—over all Israel.
Most other English Bibles has "Ashurites."
At least 2 Sam 2:9 doesnt have "Assyrian people". I think it would be fine to leave 2Sa 2:9 alone.
Thanks for checking it, John.
