\v 18 For those who are dead to the things of God cannot understand him. Christ died for them on the cross, but this message is pointless to them. However, for those of us whom God has rescued and brought to life, this message allows God to powerfully work in us.

ISSUE: Saying that Christ died for those who are dead to the things of God is theologically debatable at best, and there is no textual justification for adding "for them" to the text.

Cp ULB of this verse:

\v 18 For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing. But among those who are being saved, it is the power of God.

SUGGESTION: Simplify and change to:

\v 18 This message about Christ dying on the cross is pointless to those who are dead to the things of God. However, for those of us whom God has rescued and brought to life, this message allows God to powerfully work in us.
