\v 8 When poor people borrow money,
\q2 the lenders force those people to give to them a piece of clothing for them to keep until he can pay back the money.
\q1 But at the end of each day, instead of returning that garment as Yahweh had commanded them to,
\q2 they lie down on that garment at the places where they worship their gods!
\q1 They make people pay money for various reasons,
\q2 and then they drink it in the temples of their gods.

ISSUE: "Wine" (H3196) was left out when generating the UDB from the original TFT of v. 8c, which was:
They fine people,
and with that money they buy wine and drink it in the temples of their gods!

By comparison, the ULB of v. 8c is:
"in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been mulcted."

(I had to look up the word "mulcted"; I don't think I've ever used that word myself.)

Suggest changing the UDB to the following, going back to the TFT of the last phrase:

\v 8 When poor people borrow money,
\q2 the lenders force those people to give to them a piece of clothing for them to keep until he can pay back the money.
\q1 But at the end of each day, instead of returning that garment as Yahweh had commanded them to,
\q2 they lie down on that garment at the places where they worship their gods!
\q1 They make people pay money for various reasons,
\q2 and with that money they buy wine and drink it in the temples of their gods.

Another possibility for v. 8b is:
\q1 They make people give them wine for various reasons,
\q2 then they drink it in the temples of their gods.

I changed the strange and unknown term mulcted to "fined." in the ULB Amos 2:8

Checked that "mulct..." did not occur in the ULB.

The GNTD has:
At every place of worship people sleep on clothing that they have taken from the poor as security for debts. In the temple of their God they drink wine which they have taken from those who owe them money.

Suggest:
\q1 They make people pay money for various reasons,
\q2 and with that money they buy wine and drink it in the temples of their gods.

The final:

Thanks Bob.

Mulcted?

Bob, the term mulcted is archain and I removed all of them from the ULB ...

Seems like they have been removed all through ... a weird word.

I looked back at the history and saw that it was done to distinguish it it from the adjective "fine", which is on the TW for "precious." It looks like a tN was written for every occurrence in the ULB.

I prefer not to have the word 'mulct' because it is so uncommon and unknown by even native English speakers. But I can understand using it if it causes problems with the Strong numbers. If "fine" is a problem, I wonder if "charge" could be used. But even that has other senses that are used in the ULB.

Henry and I just chatted, and he is going to preserve the distinction between "fine" against coarse, and make it easier to set the similar terms to align .
