It is similar to a coat. * Robes are open in the front and are tied shut with a sash or belt. * Robes can be long or short. * Purple robes were worn by kings as a sign of royalty, wealth, and prestige. * The edges of a robe are called its "wings." When one person covers another person with his "wings," he covers him with that part of his robe. * A "cloak" is a long outer garment that hangs loosely from the shoulders. It covers the back and hangs loosely in the front. * A "skirt" is a woman's garment that hangs loosely from the waist and covers the legs.
