The name means, "Yahweh has given." * David's best friend Jonathan is the most well-known man in the Bible with this name. Jonathan was King Saul's oldest son. * Other Jonathans mentioned in the Old Testament include: a descendant of Moses; a nephew of King David; several priests, including a son of Abiathar; and an Old Testament scribe in whose house the prophet Jeremiah was imprisoned.
