# Tamar ## Facts: Tamar was the name of several women in the Old Testament. It was also the name of several cities or other places in the Old Testament. * Tamar was the daughter-in-law of Judah. She gave birth to Perez who was an ancestor of Jesus Christ. * One of King David's daughters was named Tamar; she was the sister of Absalom. Her half-brother Amnon raped her and left her desolate. * Absalom also had a daughter named Tamar. * A city called "Hazezon Tamar" was the same as the city of Engedi on the western shore of the Salt Sea. * There was also a place called "Baal Tamar," and general references to a place called "Tamar" which may have been different from the cities.
