# Shinar # ## Facts: ## Shinar means "country of two rivers" and was the name of a plain or region in southern Mesopotamia. * Shinar later became known as "Chaldea" and then, "Babylonia." * Ancient peoples living in the city of Babel in the Plain of Shinar built a tall tower to try to make themselves great. * Generations later, the Jewish patriarch Abraham lived in the city of Ur in this region, which by that time was called "Chaldea."
