THis issue is related to tW Issue 5 Bad Links in 1 Kings. At that point they showed up as bad links. The bad links are still there (they link to the wrong tW), but they work, so they don't show up as being bad.

In the PDFs for 1 Kings and 2 Kings, I see that a word in 1 Kings 1:21 and 2Ki 8:24 is linked to the wrong translation word.

\v 21 Otherwise it will happen, when my master the king lies down with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be regarded as criminals."

2Ki 8:24
\v 24 Jehoram lay down with his fathers and was buried with them in the city of David. Then Ahaziah his son became king in his place.

In the pdf, these are linked to "rest," even though "lies down" and "lay down" are not in the list of Forms Found in the English ULB on rest.md.

They should be linked to "sleep".

These are the only instances of "down with his fathers" in the ULB.

The ULB has "down with his ancestors" 42 times. I'll check a few of them in the pdfs to see if they link to the right page. I'm not sure if the solution is

  • to change lie down/lay down to "sleep/slept" in the ULB, or
  • to do something to the tW pages for "rest" and "sleep" (such as adding "lies down" and "lay down to the list of Forms Found in the English ULB on sleep.md.
  • to do some kind of detail work in the background as Henry was doing to make them link to the right tW pages.

I didn't look for more of these.

I don't know how these words are linked to the pages

Did Henry work on these links?

I know he was working on the links and trying to make sure that words in the ULB linked to the right tWs. I think he had a script (or multiple scripts?) that would prevent words from linking to homynym tWs, such as to keep "rest" (meaning remainder) from linking to "rest" (meaning repose). But I don't know how those work or where they are. And he had to write something for each verse that needed it. Since the words look the same, there was no way of automating it.

He wrote about it a bit in Issue 5.

When we started this project, we had the lists of tWs on the bottom of the tN records. It seems like now the words in verses are linked to tWs only in the pdfs.

I added "lies down" and "lay down" to the list of Forms Found in the English ULB on sleep.md.

Chris, do we have access to Henry's way of forcing words to link or not to link to certain tW pages? These phrases link to rest.md, and they shouldn't.

Chris and I talked.

In the tW Repo, there is a folder called tWs_for_PDFs. It has two txt files that show which words in each verse should have a link to a tW page.

https://content.bibletranslationtools.org/WycliffeAssociates/en_tw/src/branch/master/tWs_for_PDFs/tWs_for_OT_PDF.txt

https://content.bibletranslationtools.org/WycliffeAssociates/en_tw/src/branch/master/tWs_for_PDFs/tWs_for_NT_PDF.txt

I will try changing a few lines like this and see how it shows up in a pdf tomorrow.
1 Kings,1,21,"lies down",other,rest to 1 Kings,1,21,"lies down",other,sleep

1 Kings,2,10,"lay down",other,rest (Line 42893)
1 Kings,11,43,"lay down",other,rest (Line 44902)
2 Kings,8,24,"lay down",other,rest (Line 48362
2 Kings,10,35,"lay down",other,rest (Line 48853)

I changed "rest" to "sleep.
If this works, I may need to find another way to do it. The txt file is very long, so it takes a very long time to do it in WACS.

Chris suggested working on it a spreadsheet.

Dec 1, 2020 3:50pm.
I checked the pdfs from BibleinEveryLanguage.org.
Both pdfs say "Contains revisions as of: 2020-11-30".
All four of the lines were changed to end in "sleep" rather than "rest".
The links for 1Kings 2:10 and 11:43 go to the page for "asleep" (sleep.md)
The links for 2Ki 8:24 and 10:35 go to "rest".
I don't understand.

@chrisjarka, do you have any idea what the problem might be?

When we figure this out, I plan to open the copy of tWs_for_OT_PDF.txt that is stored on my computer in Excel spreadsheet to make the changes. Then I'll save it, still as .txt file, and push it up to WACS.

Thurs Dec 3, 2020. I sent an email to the WA_IT Helpdesk and Craig asking if they can figure it out.

The links for 2Ki 8:24 and 10:35 now go to the page for “asleep” (sleep.md)

This works now. So I can fix the rest of the lines in tWs_for_PDFs that erroneously link to "rest".

"lay with" now links to "sleep" rather than to "rest".
"rest of" no longer links to "rest" in the verses that I was aware of it.
