In the New Testament there were two cities named Antioch; one was the capital city of the ancient country of Syria and was located about 24 kilometers from the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The other Antioch was located in Pisidia (in Asia Minor or modern day Turkey) not far from the ancient city of Colosse.
* In the Syrian city of Antioch, located about 800 kilometers north of Jerusalem, was the first place where believers in Jesus were called Christians.
* The Syrian Antioch was a very important city and the local church there sent out missionaries to the Gentiles.
* Paul, Barnabas and John Mark traveled to the Pisidian Antioch, to share the gospel with the people there.
