# Rabbi
## Definition
The term "Rabbi" was a title of respect and honor used to address a man who was a Jewish religious teacher, especially a teacher of God's laws.
* Literally, "Rabbi" means "my master" or "my teacher."
* Both John the Baptist and Jesus were sometimes called "Rabbi" by their disciples.
* "Rabbi" is also a title that the Pharisees liked for people to address them with.
## Translation Suggestions
* Ways to translate this term could include, "My Master" or "My Teacher" or "Honorable Teacher" or "Religious Teacher."
* There may be a special way that teachers are addressed in the language that the Bible is being translated into.
* Make sure the translation of this doesn't sound like Jesus was a schoolteacher.
* Some languages may capitalize a greeting like this, but others may not.
* Also consider how "Rabbi" is translated in a Bible translation in a related language or a national language.
