Perhaps the word "weighted" in the sentence is wrong?

"A perfect and just weight you must have"
In the ancient Near East, money was weighted on a scale. If a persons weight was off, they were robbing people. (See: rc://en/ta/man/jit/figs-explicit)

And it should be:

"A perfect and just weight you must have"
In the ancient Near East, money was weighed on a scale. If a persons weight was off, they were robbing people. (See: rc://en/ta/man/jit/figs-explicit)

AND -

Would "If a persons weight was off, ..." better said as: "If the weight of the scale was not accurate, ..."

I am good with those changes.

I like both of those changes. If you leave it "persons weight was off" then the word "persons" needs to be changed to reflect its possessive meaning, "person's."

How about one of these?

"A perfect and just weight you must have"
In the ancient Near East, people weighed money on a scale by comparing the money's weight with the weights made of stone or metal that were made for that purpose. God was commanding people use accurate weights. He did not want them to rob people by using inaccurate weights. (See: rc://en/ta/man/jit/figs-explicit)

or

"A perfect and just weight you must have"
In the ancient Near East, people weighed gold and silver on a scale and used it as money. God was commanding people to use accurate weights for weighing the gold and silver. He did not want them to rob people by using inaccurate weights.
