Translator has this comment:
"Only one of Aaron's sons survived because the others offered improper sacrifices." This is a factual error. Nadab and Abihu perished for this offense, but Aaron's other two sons, Eleazar and Ithamar, survived.
The note currently states under the 'The tribe of Levi" heading
The Levites were given a special function in Israel. They belonged to or were specially dedicated to serve Yahweh. They were to be priests and because of this were held to a higher standard than the rest of Israel. Only one of Aaron's sons survived because the others offered improper sacrifices. This tribe had a lot of responsibility during this time.
Not sure how that slipped through.
Suggestion
The Levites were given a special function in Israel. They belonged to or were specially dedicated to serve Yahweh. They were to be priests and because of this were held to a higher standard than the rest of Israel. Only two of Aaron's sons survived because his other two sons offered improper sacrifices. This tribe had a lot of responsibility during this time.
FWIW, the error was there from the beginning.
It looks like a good change.
One suggestion. Could the third sentence be broken up with a comma and a subject pronoun?
They were to be priests**,** and because of this they were held to a higher standard than the rest of Israel.
Updated with Susan's suggestions.
