An equal translation communicates any expressive meaning from the source language in an equal way in the target language. Especially notice the forms in the source text that communicate certain kinds of emotions and choose forms in the target language that communicate the same emotions.
I find the explanation above a bit confusing. What does "in an equal way" mean? Could someone think it means "with an equal form"? How about this?
People sometimes use figures of speech and poetry to commmunicate both ideas and emotions. An equal translation communicates equal iideas and emotions as the source language text. However translators may need to use different figures of speech or different forms of poetry to communicate the same ideas and emotions in the target language.

I'm not the word-smith like you but I find the 2nd sentence in your paragraph clearer than the original but still a bit confusing. Can it be??? "communicates the same ideas and emotions as the source" ??

Yes. I like your wording better. I was just trying to connect the word "equal" with it, but "same" is clearer.
