دریائے یٙردن کے پار مشرقی قبِیلوں نے کہا " آو ہم اپنے لِیے ایک مذبح بنانا شُروع کریں جو نہ سوختنی قُربا نی کے لِیے ہو اور نہ زبیحِہ کے لِیے ، بلکہ وہ ہمارے اور تُمہارے اور ہمارے بعد ہماری نسلوں کے درمِیان گواہ ٹھہرے تاکہ ہم خُداوند کے حضُور اُس کی عِبادت اپنی سوختنی قُربانیوں اور اپنے زبیِحوں اور سلامتی کے ہدیوں سے کریں اور آیندہ زمانہ میں تُمہاری اٙولاد ہماری اٙولاد سے کہنے نہ پائے کہ خُداوند میں تُمہارا کوئی حِصّہ نہیں۔"وہ گھر چلے گئے اگرچہ اِسرائیلیوں نے ابھی مُکمل طور پر مُلک فتح نہیں کیا تھا۔
The tribes east of the Jordan River said, "Let us now build an altar, not for burnt offerings nor for any sacrifices, but to be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we will perform the service of Yahweh before him, with our burnt offerings and with our sacrifices and with our peace offerings, so that your children will never say to our children in time to come, 'You have no share in Yahweh.'" They went home even though the Israelites had not fully conquered the land.
